Those living with cystic fibrosis (CF) begin to lose their
breath the very moment they are born. Cystic fibrosis
is the most common fatal genetic disease in North
America. It causes progressive lung damage while
compromising other organs. Those living with CF try
to slow the progression of the disease by undergoing
hours of respiratory and medical treatments daily.
Cystic Fibrosis Research (CFRI) was founded 40 years
ago, and at that time, children with CF rarely survived
their teens. Thanks to cutting-edge research and
medical advances the median life expectancy is now
40 years. Still, there is no cure.
